In India, the festival of Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. It takes place on a different date every year, but usually in October or November. This year, the most important day of the multi-day festival falls on Sunday, November 12. During the festivities, clay lamps are lit with oil, fireworks are set off and people give each other sweets. Diwali reminds us that hope and light can overcome even the darkest of times.
